Vertical Drop Heroes HD launched on July 25, 2014 and received a handful of patches and minor updates in its early life. The game then went quiet for many years while under a publisher arrangement. On December 15, 2025, developer Nerdook announced that he had regained full control of the game from the publisher and released a substantial free update (v1.0.4) to celebrate — described as a "MASSIVE, FREE update" that overhauled the core game system logic, improved performance, replaced art sprites with new hand-drawn assets, and more. Critically, Nerdook explicitly stated: "I will continue updating the game with more changes and content from now on, so look forward to more regular updates." This is a direct developer commitment to ongoing content and updates. As recently as June 15, 2026, Nerdook posted again on the game's page (announcing a new game, Cyberpunk Inquisitor, as part of Steam Next Fest), confirming the developer remains active and engaged. The sole DLC — a Halloween Theme — was released back in October 2014 and is the only DLC listed, with no unreleased items. The game is fully purchasable and is in active post-launch development following the developer's December 2025 recommitment.
