Backrooms: Realm of Shadows launched on July 11, 2023 and has been actively developed by Cyprus Games ever since. The game has shipped two major content releases post-launch: the free Backrooms: Eternal Shadows story expansion (March 26, 2024) and a substantial feature patch (Patch 3.2.0, March 27, 2026) that added new sub-layer levels, a new Easter Egg level, and a full UI overhaul. A seasonal Winter Nights event was delivered in December 2025, and a follow-up bug fix patch landed on April 8, 2026.
On October 29, 2025, Cyprus Games published a public roadmap explicitly outlining planned content for the rest of 2025 (a Winter Event and engine improvements) and for 2026 (new sub-layer levels, new main levels, enhanced AI and entity behaviors, and community-driven updates).
