Evaluation

Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition was released on November 15, 2013, as an enhanced version of the classic RPG. Beamdog has maintained a long history of post-launch updates, including major patches in 2014 (v1.3), 2016 (v2.0, v2.3), and 2021 (Patch 2.6). The 2021 Patch 2.6 was a major overhaul that upgraded the game to 64-bit, added new voice sets and portraits, and introduced new localizations — and the patch notes explicitly noted "we're still working on future updates." True to that promise, Beamdog announced a Patch 2.7 beta in February 2026, describing their ongoing commitment to keeping the game running on modern platforms and devices. As of June 3, 2026, the 2.7 beta is on its third iteration (2.7.3.0) and Beamdog has stated a full stable release is planned for late June 2026. A new DLC — "Reflections of Myth & Valor" — also shipped on April 29, 2025, showing that the game continues to receive new content as well as technical maintenance. Beamdog's February 2026 post explicitly framed their intent to continue supporting the game, noting plans to also update Planescape: Torment Enhanced Edition in the future. The developer is actively engaged with the game and its player base, and the upcoming 2.7 full release confirms ongoing development work.
