Evaluation

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition has been available since January 2013 and has received continuous developer support across more than a decade. The game shipped with the original campaign and Tales of the Sword Coast expansion included, and has since received a substantial paid expansion (Siege of Dragonspear, March 2016), a major free overhaul patch (2.6, April 2021), and a free portrait DLC pack (Reflections of Myth & Valor, April 2025). Beamdog is actively working on a 2.7 patch for the Infinity Engine games (covering BG:EE, Siege of Dragonspear, BG2:EE, and Icewind Dale:EE). They entered public beta in February 2026, released three beta updates through June 3, 2026, and the most recent beta post describes it as a "release candidate" with a full release planned for late June 2026. As of today (June 23, 2026), that release has not yet shipped but is imminent. In their February 2026 development update, Beamdog clearly described their ongoing philosophy: they intend to keep these classics running smoothly on modern platforms, plan to integrate community translations more easily going forward, and mentioned future intentions for Planescape: Torment Enhanced Edition as well. This confirms the studio remains actively engaged with the product. All five DLC listings are released. The 2.7 patch is not itself listed as a DLC, but it represents concrete, ongoing development work that the developer has publicly committed to completing. No content has been announced as definitively "final," and the developer's most recent communications make clear they intend to continue supporting the game.

Your journey begins as all great cRPG tales once did: quietly, within the walls of home, before fate tears everything open.

Forced from the safety of Candlekeep under mysterious circumstances, you’re thrust into a conflict that threatens to ignite the Sword Coast. Your world has always been limited to the fortress library’s ancient halls, where your foster father, Gorion, worked tirelessly to shield you from dangers you never understood.

All of that is about to change, setting you on the path that made Baldur’s Gate a legend.
