Evaluation
Catacomb Kids has been in Early Access since February 2015 and remains explicitly unfinished. The developer, Tyriq (FourbitFriday), has been consistently transparent about the path to a 1.0 release throughout the game's development.
On March 1, 2025, Tyriq announced that he had finished his work on UFO 50 and co-founded a new studio called Odd Object with the game's composer Stevie. He stated that Odd Object would first ship one new game, then return full attention to Catacomb Kids — "finally" pushing it to 1.0 — for the first time as a small team rather than a solo developer.
That new studio game, Scrubbin' Trubble, launched on March 31, 2026. In the same announcement post, Tyriq explicitly confirmed that Odd Object's next endeavor will be returning to Catacomb Kids, bringing new development skills and team infrastructure to the project. He noted needing a few weeks for personal matters (moving house and a rest) before that work begins.
As of today, October 8, 2026 — roughly six months after the Scrubbin' Trubble launch and that reaffirmation — there has been no further public communication about Catacomb Kids on Steam. However, the developer's stated timeline for personal matters was "several weeks," and no deadline was given for when active Catacomb Kids development would resume. Given the developer's history of long gaps between updates and the explicit, recent commitment to return to the game, the absence of posts since March 31, 2026 does not yet represent an unexpected silence relative to the developer's established communication pattern.
The game has received sustained updates throughout its Early Access lifespan, including a full lighting system overhaul, save/load functionality, new player classes, new game modes, and extensive bug fixes. The most recent patch (0.2.4, March 1, 2025) addressed a significant backlog of crashes and bugs to keep the game in a playable state while the developer was occupied with other work.
Evidence
Developer confirms Scrubbin' Trubble has launched and that Odd Object's next project will be returning to Catacomb Kids — bringing new team skills and resources — to push it to 1.0 for the first time as a studio effort rather than solo dev.
Developer announces co-founding of studio Odd Object and explicitly states intention to return to Catacomb Kids after the studio's first game ships, with the goal of finally reaching 1.0 with team support.

About this game
The Origin Of Dungeons
500 Years ago the demon sorceress Abys was sealed away beneath her fortress by four legendary heroes and a fifth forgotten one. Over time, no longer held aloft by Abys' magic, the fortress sank into the earth and became a haven for foul creatures, dark magic, and the refuse of the Overworld. The fortress, now buried deep undergound, became known as The Catacombs, and kids from all over found themselves drawn into its shadows - seeking riches, power, knowledge, and escape. Now, coming-of-age ceremonies and criminal sentences alike all revolve around plumbing the depths of The Catacombs, and the legend of Abys has been all but forgotten. Some say she yet sleeps in the dark below, the seals that keep her contained growing ever-weaker.
What Lies Beneath
Catacomb Kids is a procedurally generated platformer, with an equal emphasis on quick reactions, tactical engagement, and strategic character growth. Wield swords, spears, axes, and daggers -- unleash powerful magicks to burn, freeze and poison foes with -- overcome traps and beasts both deadly and unrelenting. The game is streamlined but not "simple", featuring a system where basic elements interact to create complex outcomes and stories. Lure monsters into combat with one another or take advantage of environmental hazards to trick your foes into their own bloody demise. The world is your crafting space, allowing you to create new items and tools from within the game-space itself, never needing to farm materials or navigate a menu to demonstrate your cleverness.
