Catan Universe launched on April 25, 2017 and has operated as a live service game ever since. The game is built around a recurring seasonal model: time-limited competitive events with exclusive rewards cycle through regularly, and the developer has shown no signs of winding this down.
The most recent season — the Seafarers Jester Season — launched on July 28, 2026 (NEWS-1), bringing placement matches, community-voted scenarios, three reward tiers, and new cosmetic items including a Piglet pet avatar. This was preceded by a July 20, 2026 patch (2.7.5) that specifically cleaned up matchmaking bugs ahead of the season launch.
Before that, a major UI overhaul shipped in February 2026 (Update 2.7.0), a preparatory patch in March 2026 (2.7.4) explicitly noted "bigger updates are already in the works," and an April 2026 season ("The Jesters Set Sail!") introduced the Seafarer expansion scenarios as a competitive format. Seasons were formally reintroduced in April 2025 after a hiatus, with the developer noting at that time that future seasons may include participation fees — consistent with a sustained live service structure.
