Evaluation

Ceress and Orea launched on April 20, 2018 as a self-contained, intentionally short experience — the store description explicitly describes it as "a short journey, which can be completed in one session" with a single ending and a linear structure. The game was designed from the outset as a complete, finished product with no post-launch content cycle. The developer's news posts since launch have focused entirely on new, separate projects: a September 2021 announcement for a new game called Everdine - A Lost Girl's Tale, and a February 2026 demo release for yet another new project, The Herzbury Curse. Neither post references any additions or changes to Ceress and Orea. There are no DLC listings, no roadmap, and no developer statements hinting at future content for this title. The game shipped as a complete package and has received no post-launch content expansions. Anyone waiting for all content before playing can consider it fully complete as of its original release date.

About this game

Ceress is sentenced to death for being in love with the oracle Orea.
But stubborn as she is, she calls out to an old deity, demanding a chance to change this unrighteousness.

Can Ceress overcome death to be reunited with the woman she loves?

Ceress and Orea is...

  • a short journey, which can be completed in one session. (Playtime approx. 60 min.)
  • a soothing adventure. Well, for the most part.
  • an atmospheric game.
  • a game with puzzles.
  • a game without battles.
  • a game about the love of two young women.
  • a simple, linear game. (One ending)
  • a game with an original game soundtrack, composed by Ryan Fogleman.

After Ceress is sentenced to death, she's thrown into an abyss. As she awakens she finds herself within a cave system, which soon turns out to be the realm of an old deity.
Ceress will have to prove herself worthy by traversing this death realm and solving the puzzles ahead of her, to finally get back into the world of the living and to return to her love Orea.

Along the way the player can discover several of Ceress’ memories.

Ceress and Orea is a bit of an adventure, a bit walking sim and a bit puzzler.
And of course a love story!
