Evaluation

City Game Studio launched on August 24, 2021 and has been continuously developed by its solo developer (Xavier at Binogure Studio) with a steady stream of weekly devlogs and updates ever since. The game is currently on version 1.27, released June 13, 2026, and v1.28 is confirmed launching on September 23, 2026 — just eight days from today's assessment date. The upcoming v1.28 update is well-documented across multiple recent devlogs. It includes a complete redesign of the in-game digital store (now described as feeling "like a game within the game"), new game engine features such as text-based games and split-screen support, a reworked market research panel, adjustable employee salaries, smarter HR automation for managing employee happiness, a new "Friendslop" genre, and various stability and interface improvements. In the September 4, 2026 post, the developer explicitly set the release date and outlined plans for employee-focused in-game events as the next area of focus after v1.28 ships — signaling that development will continue beyond this upcoming release. The 'Supporter Pack' DLC, announced in May 2026 and described as adding cosmetic content (new magazines, logos, and furniture), remains listed on the store without a release date. It attracted over 400 wishlists within weeks of being announced, indicating active community interest. The developer has maintained weekly devlogs throughout 2026, with posts on August 7, 14, 21, 28, and September 4 all describing ongoing feature work and bug fixes for v1.28. There is no indication of development slowing down or concluding.

About this game

City Game Studio is a deep management game set in a city where you can manage several studios. Create and manage your own video game company, run several studios, create tons of games. Enjoy dozens of hours of gameplay and watch the money flow, or deal with the banker!

January 1976, you've just created your own video game company. You are renting a tight place that allows you to develop your first game. Quickly, your games are successful and you already have to move, but it is up to you to cross the city to pick your next local. In the blink of an eye you are hiring artists to improve the visual aspect of your games. Next came developers and then testers.

But a problem remains, even if your games are brilliant, you don't have enough fans to self-publish a big game to make your studio profitable. You will have to turn to video game editors who will carve out the lion's share. Chaining successes is the only way of getting rid of the publishers. Furthermore you will be able to publish your own publishing contracts. Then you will then be ready to dominate the market and buy back your competitors.

City Game Studio is the outcome of several years' work by a single living being, well, a single human being. Except for the soundtrack, which was composed by a talented musician: Conciliator!
