Project Hospital launched on October 30, 2018 and received four DLC expansions over its first two years: Doctor Mode (November 26, 2019), Hospital Services (April 24, 2020), Department of Infectious Diseases (August 18, 2020), and Traumatology Department (October 20, 2020). All four DLC are released, and the DLC list shows no unreleased items.
The developer explicitly confirmed the game's content status in a December 20, 2022 holiday post: "active development of Project Hospital has ended and no more DLC is planned." This is a clear, direct statement that content development is finished. Despite that, Oxymoron Games has continued to provide maintenance patches — the most recent being Patch 43, released February 9, 2026 — addressing security vulnerabilities, platform compatibility issues, and gameplay bugs. The developer has been transparent that this ongoing patching is maintenance work rather than new content, noting in December 2025 that "we keep fixing game-breaking bugs in Project Hospital that get still reported every now and then."
The studio's focus has shifted to their new game, Heroes of Science and Fiction, which is referenced multiple times in recent posts. Project Hospital is a complete, fully-released game with all announced content delivered, receiving only ongoing bug-fix support.

There are a few different modes in Project Hospital:
- Tutorial levels will guide your through the basics of treating patients and running hospitals.
- Sandbox mode offers endless hours of content, building anything from small clinics to huge multi-storey hospitals, starting from scratch or in one of pre-built hospitals or clinics in case you want to jump straight into management. Run you own ambulance service and help handle events and emergencies.
- The campaign will put you in the shoes of a crisis manager trying to save a few hospitals in critical state.
- 6 challenge levels will test your skills and let you focus on the intricate details of individual specialized departments.

- Project Hospital also has a Thai translation, available via a special version of the game, go to Properties -> BETAS -> choose thai-language-support
- For Asian languages and the Steam Deck, please run the game using Proton (Properties -> Compatibility) to get fonts to display correctly
