Evaluation
CityDriver launched on Steam on June 5, 2023 and has received consistent updates since then. Shortly after launch, the developer announced continued development plans citing more vehicles, map expansions, and modding improvements. In November 2023, a free map expansion (Autobahn Nord) was released, adding motorway sections, new missions, and points of interest. Feature patches followed through late 2023.
The most significant post-launch update arrived on July 1, 2025, delivering a substantial free upgrade to a new version of Unreal Engine 5, a brand-new day-night cycle, improved lighting and foliage, saved mission progress, and refined AI and vehicle physics. This was followed by a bug-fix patch on December 22, 2025 addressing traffic light visibility and steering wheel configuration issues, while also confirming the game is receiving updates on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Looking at the timeline of major content: the Autobahn Nord expansion shipped in November 2023, and the major free engine/feature update shipped in July 2025 — roughly an 18-20 month interval between substantial updates. As of October 1, 2026, it has been approximately 15 months since the July 2025 major update, which is within that historical window. All three listed DLC items are released, and the developer has made no statement that development has concluded. The sustained pattern of meaningful post-launch improvements, with no indication of a wind-down, suggests the game continues to be actively maintained.
