Dead as Disco

Dead as Disco launched into Early Access on May 5, 2026. The developer (Brain Jar Games) published a detailed public roadmap at launch describing a structured update arc called the "Summer Flames Festival," with three named major stops before moving into Fall and Winter festival seasons, ultimately targeting a 1.0 release in 2027. The first two major updates have both shipped on schedule. Update 1 — "The Summer Flames Tour" — arrived June 16, 2026, delivering a new song ("Versus" by Dex), a new arena, new enemy types, cosmetics, dance moves, and expanded Custom Challenge tools. Update 2 — the "Midsummer Update" — arrived August 3, 2026, adding another new song ("Maniac - Skate Version"), four new beach arenas, new outfits, new dance moves, a new enemy type (Elite Stardolls), an Intense difficulty mode, Steam Achievements, automatic BPM detection for custom music, and a broad set of balance and quality-of-life improvements. The developer explicitly stated in their August 3, 2026 update post that this is "Early Access done properly" and that player feedback is shaping ongoing development. Multiple major commitments from the original roadmap remain outstanding: Update 3 (the "Boss Idol Finale" featuring a brand-new Idol with a full story level, new music, new skills, and narrative content), co-op multiplayer, full voice-over for the hub world, replay and photo mode support, additional Idol reveals planned for Fall and Winter festival seasons, the final story arc, and the full 1.0 launch itself. The game is actively and rapidly in development, delivering major updates roughly every six to seven weeks since launch. As of today (August 17, 2026), the developer's last communication was on August 3, 2026, just two weeks ago.
