Dead Island 2 launched on Steam on April 22, 2024, and has received a steady stream of content updates since. The two story expansions — Haus and SoLA — shipped alongside the Steam launch. A substantial free Patch 6 update arrived on October 22, 2024, adding New Game Plus mode and the Neighborhood Watch cooperative horde mode, alongside the release of the Ultimate Edition bundling all existing content. A follow-up bug-fix patch (Patch 7) shipped on December 10, 2024 to address issues introduced by the new content. Most significantly, on September 9, 2025, Dambuster Studios published a milestone post celebrating 14 years of the Dead Island franchise and 20 million players in Dead Island 2. In that post, the studio explicitly stated: "This isn't the final cut. Dambuster Studios are already carving out what comes next... the outbreak is far from over." This is a direct developer statement confirming that additional content is in development, even though no specific details have been shared yet. All 14 DLC items currently listed on the store are released, but the studio's own words make clear that the game's content journey is not finished.
