DEAD OR SCHOOL was developed by Studio Nanafushi through Steam Early Access, receiving a series of major content updates that added new stages, weapons, monsters, and gameplay systems. The game grew from its initial release through versions 2.00 through 6.04, adding stages including Budokan, Akihabara, Shinjuku, Asakusa, and the final stage. The April 5, 2019 update (ver 6.04) explicitly marked the completion of the final stage and thanked Early Access participants, noting the team would "continue to improve as much as possible until the end of early access." The game then officially launched on June 3, 2019, completing the Early Access period.
Since the June 2019 launch, developer communications have consisted entirely of bug fix and feature patches — no new stages, expansions, or major content has been announced or released. The one announcement post since launch (July 30, 2024) was Studio Nanafushi promoting an entirely separate new game (Trainer Eyes / Trainer Eyes VR), not any new content for DEAD OR SCHOOL. There are no unreleased DLC listings, no roadmap for future content, and no developer statements indicating further development of this title. The game launched as a complete package after its Early Access graduation, and all evidence points to it having been a finished product since that June 2019 release date.
