Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition launched on June 23, 2015 as a heavily enhanced version of the 2008 original, adding three new playable characters (Vergil, Lady, and Trish), new game modes, and visual improvements. All nine DLC items were released at launch or shortly after, with the final addition being the original soundtrack on December 15, 2020. No further game content has been released or announced since that date.
The developer's news posts from 2025 and 2026 are promotional announcements for the Netflix animated series, not game content updates — they simply link to the game's store page alongside other titles in the franchise. There is no mention of new game modes, characters, patches, or downloadable content in any post-2020 communication.
The game launched as a complete, standalone package and has received no post-launch game content beyond the soundtrack addition in December 2020. All DLC is released and available for purchase. Capcom has made no announcements suggesting additional game content is planned.

Devil May Cry 4 immerses gamers in a gothic supernatural world, where a new protagonist clashes with a familiar hero. As the new leading man, Nero, players will unleash incredible attacks and non-stop combos using a unique new gameplay mechanic, his powerful "Devil Bringer" arm.
On the coast of a distant land lies the castle town of Fortuna. It is here that the group known as the Order of the Sword practices a mysterious religion. They revere the demon warrior Sparda, who as their god fought to protect humans, and are committed to the extermination of all demons. Nero, a young knight from the Order, is tasked with finding Dante, the mysterious assassin who murdered the head of the Order of the Sword. At the same time, more demons begin to appear throughout the city. Nero will soon come to discover the motives behind Dante's appearance and the truth behind the intentions of the Order of the Sword.
