Evaluation

Earth Overclocked launched out of Early Access on December 4, 2015. Shortly after launch, the developer announced a free "Trials" expansion was in the works. However, on June 18, 2016, Chronicle Bench posted a direct statement explaining that all future major content for Earth Overclocked was being cancelled — including the Trials expansion. The reasons given were technical limitations with the GameMaker: Studio engine and a decision to redirect the team's full attention to a new project. The developer was clear that, while bug fixes would continue, no further major content patches would be released. The final substantive update — the "Enemy Overhaul Update" (version 1.1) — shipped on June 23, 2016, fulfilling the AI improvement work that had been in progress before the cancellation announcement. No further content updates have followed in the years since. Subsequent Chronicle Bench news posts (2024 and 2025) announce entirely new games — Catwink and ByteRogue — confirming the studio moved on from Earth Overclocked long ago. Earth Overclocked is a complete, finished game.

About this game

Earth Overclocked is a twin-stick shooter with rogue-like elements, set in a distorted version of our world where trees are evil, snowmen have lasers, and monsters run amok. After a scientist's time machine explodes while traveling to the past, he finds himself trapped in this hostile, parallel dimension. Now he must reassemble the time machine and escape before this warped reality collapses in on itself. Fortunately, a variety of bizarre and powerful weapons are scattered throughout the land to aid him in his quest. Arm the Scientist with shotguns, boomerangs, cannons, magical swords, and even cheese to help him survive!

With only 20 minutes to explore, blast monsters, and rebuild his time machine; surviving Earth Overclocked isn't going to be easy.

In true rogue-like fashion death is permanent, but procedurally generated environments combined with permanently unlockable weapons, game modes, and abilities makes each playthrough feel like fresh experience.
