Evaluation

Earthtongue launched on April 27, 2015 and received a steady series of updates over the following years. The developer shipped two major named updates after launch: the Modules Update on March 27, 2016 (which added Steam Workshop support and new world types), and the Nutricycle update (version 1.3) on August 4, 2018, followed quickly by a patch on August 9, 2018. A third major update, "Extinction" (version 1.4), arrived on July 4, 2019, introducing a fossils mechanic and numerous balance improvements. The final recorded communication from the developer was a hotfix on July 19, 2019 that corrected bugs introduced in the 1.4 update. Since July 19, 2019, there have been no further posts, patches, or announcements from the developer. The major content releases span from 2016 to 2019, with the gap between the 2016 and 2018 updates being roughly 24 months, and the gap from the 2018 update to the 2019 update being about 11 months. The last developer communication was on July 19, 2019 — nearly seven years before today's date of June 28, 2026. No future content was announced in any of the posts, no unreleased DLC exists in the store listing (only the soundtrack, which shipped the day after launch), and the store description contains no mention of planned updates or live-service features. The extended silence well beyond the historical update cadence, combined with the absence of any outstanding commitments, indicates the game's content development concluded with the July 2019 hotfix.
Evidence

About this game

A sunless world of fungi and bugs, sustained by a slow rain of nutritious substance, could use your guidance and cataloging.
EarthTongue is a vivarium sim that places in you limited control over a small ecosystem on a fantastical world. You will spend most of your time watching life grow and eat each other to survive. Your subtle nudges will be required to maintain the balance of this world, but it can handle itself much of the time. Player given goals are limited, aside from maximizing the health of your ecosystem. You may choose to try to create a fungal garden to your liking. You may try your best to breed as many beetles as you can. You might use those beetles instead as food stock for the mantises. You might instead just peacefully watch the story of Earthtongue unfold on its own.
