Eastward launched on September 16, 2021 as a complete story-driven adventure game. After release, the developer Pixpil worked on a substantial DLC expansion called Eastward: Octopia, which was announced in September 2023 and released on January 31, 2024. Octopia is a fully self-contained farming spinoff featuring Sam and John in a parallel-world story, estimated at 15–20 hours of content. All three DLC items listed on the store (Octopia itself and its soundtrack, plus the base game's soundtrack) have been released with no unreleased items remaining. Since the Octopia launch, developer communications have shifted to community celebration and retrospective content rather than new game content. In October 2025, Chucklefish and Pixpil shared a documentary series ("The Making of Eastward: Design Works - Part 1") produced by Lost in Cult, tied to the game's 4th anniversary and a companion artbook. This retrospective framing — anniversary content, a design documentary, reprinted artbooks — is consistent with a game whose content development has concluded. There are no announced future expansions, no roadmap posts, no unreleased DLC listings, and no developer statements indicating further content is planned. The game's only post-launch paid content (Octopia) has shipped. Eastward and its DLC appear to be complete as of January 31, 2024.
