Evaluation
Eight-Minute Empire launched on September 6, 2017 as a digital adaptation of the board game of the same name. All six DLC packs — five additional maps and the Mountains expansion — were released on September 5, 2017, effectively at launch alongside the base game. The developer shipped a meaningful online multiplayer overhaul in August 2019 and a follow-up bug fix patch in September 2019, but there have been no further content updates since then. Recent news posts from the developer (November 2024 through November 2025) are focused entirely on promoting Acram Digital's new original game, Inkborn, with Eight-Minute Empire appearing only as a bundled or discounted title during sales events. No new content, roadmap, or future plans for Eight-Minute Empire have been announced. The game appears to have launched as a complete package — the board game adaptation is fully realized, all DLC shipped at launch, and the developer's attention has moved on to new projects.

About this game

Eight-Minute Empire, by Ryan Laukat, is a quick Civilization/Exploration game using card-driven area control.
In Eight-Minute Empire, 2-5 players take turns selecting a card from the six displayed. This card gives the player a resource and also has an action that the player takes immediately. Actions help players take over the map, but the resources are worth points at the end of the game, so players have to balance the two aspects. Players spread across the map in order to collect points at the end of the game by having majority control in regions and continents.

Eight-Minute Empire is a super-quick area control game requiring tough decisions. It’s easy to learn and perfect for when you only have a few minutes.
