Evaluation

El Tango de la Muerte is a self-contained casual rhythm game that launched on April 24, 2018 and completed its full story content — all chapters, an epilogue, and per-song challenges — by August 17, 2018. The developer shipped updates at a brisk weekly-to-monthly pace in the months following launch, adding new chapters, an epilogue, an Easy Mode, and a full set of song challenges. The August 17, 2018 post explicitly marked the completion of all challenges and signaled a shift toward pre-production on a second game. A March 2020 developer post confirmed the developer had moved on to a new convoy/roguelite project called Desert Pirates, and mentioned a rebuild of Tango in a new engine with planned achievements and a "walks" feature. Follow-up posts in June and October 2021 noted that rebuild was partially in progress on weekends. However, neither the rebuilt version nor those additional features ever appear to have shipped as a formal update, and there have been no developer communications about El Tango de la Muerte since October 2021. The one DLC listed — the game's official soundtrack — was released on May 8, 2018 and is the only supplemental content, with no unreleased DLC on record. Given the game's story was explicitly finished in 2018, all challenges were completed, the developer publicly moved focus to a new project, and there has been no communication about El Tango de la Muerte since October 2021, the game is effectively complete. The engine-rebuild tease from 2020–2021 was never followed through with a delivery, and with over four years of silence since that last mention, it is not reasonable to treat it as a pending commitment. The game launched as a narrative-complete package and has received no substantial updates since mid-2018.
