Entropia Universe is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online game that has been continuously live since 2003, arriving on Steam on July 22, 2025. It is built around a persistent real-cash economy — players can deposit and withdraw real money — and is explicitly designed to evolve indefinitely. Development remains extremely active. Since the previous assessment in June 2026, MindArk has continued shipping updates at a high pace. On June 24, 2026, update 19.9.0 added a new Umbranoid mutant outpost, instanced apartments for all players, new ocean creatures and naval weapons tied to the Fishing system, and new weapon and mining tool attachments. On June 30, 2026, patch 19.9.1 added 12 new furniture blueprints, new quests, and various fixes. Most recently, on July 20, 2026, MindArk published a developer blog previewing multiple features currently in development: an Auction House rework with quality-of-life improvements, an entirely new character creation system with updated facial animations, and new real-time 3D map modes. The developer noted these are "mid development, not polished, not in a final state," and explicitly referenced continued work toward an Unreal Engine migration. Looking at the broader update history: the Fishing & Cooking system launched April 15, 2026 (a major new system with 100 fish species and 111 new consumables), followed by several follow-up patches refining it; the Synths AI avatar system launched May 19, 2026; and a comprehensive Synths update shipped June 2, 2026 expanding their capabilities significantly. This is a live-service game by design, with a real-money economy, continuous new feature development, and a major engine upgrade actively in progress. There is no indication of any slowdown in development activity.
