Evaluation

Forever Home launched on October 31, 2017 as a complete, self-contained retro RPG developed over 13 years. The store description presents it as a finished product — a 30+ hour story-driven game with a clearly defined feature set and no mention of future content additions. The only DLC ever released is the game's official soundtrack, which shipped on November 8, 2017 — just over a week after launch — and is the only item in the DLC list, with no unreleased entries. After launch, the developer (Pixel Blade Games) was actively engaged in post-release support, shipping frequent patches through the end of 2017 and into 2018 that addressed bugs, balance issues, quality-of-life improvements, and controller support. Patches continued more sparsely through 2020 (v1.26) and 2021 (v1.29), with the most recent update being v1.30 on August 17, 2023. All of these updates have been bug fixes and incremental feature improvements — none constitute new story content, expansions, or additional chapters. There has been one major content milestone noted across all 49 posts scanned. The developer has never announced any planned DLC, expansions, or additional story content. The August 17, 2023 patch is the last recorded communication. Given the nature of the updates (maintenance and polish rather than new content) and the absence of any announced future content, the game is best understood as a finished product that has received ongoing technical upkeep since its 2017 launch.

About this game

Throughout our lives the moments we share with others paint bold strokes across our canvas of memories. They define our personality, our existence, and shape our futures. Our greatest desire is to find that moment, that perfect instance, we wish to relive forever. That moment, no matter where you are or what you're feeling, is home.
After a series of tragic events, our hero Xero and his best friends are thrown from their homes into the middle of a war between nations. A general on one side of the conflict obtains an incredible power and then goes rogue, threatening humanity's very existence. The future of the planet is in danger and the only way to save it may involve killing your best friend.

Forever Home is a retro RPG developed over 13 years that takes inspiration from SNES and PS1 classics. The battle system is influenced from Squaresoft style action turn-based systems such as Final Fantasy VI or Chrono Trigger. It uses a skill learning system similar to Grandia II and the Final Fantasy VII Materia system. Forever Home includes item and weapon crafting, monster catching, a rank based Colosseum, and numerous side quests.
The 30+ hour character driven narrative contains a deeply emotional and adult-oriented story mixing tragedy and heartache with overcoming personal adversities and lighthearted humor. The theme focuses on the meaning of survival and finding a place you can call home. A powerful original soundtrack mixing classical instruments with alternative drums and guitar helps push the mood.
