Fragsurf has been in Steam Early Access since June 7, 2020, and remains there. The developer (Crayz) is in the middle of an active pre-release communication campaign for Version 4.0, which they have described as "Fragsurf's largest update yet." Between August 6 and August 21, 2026, the developer published three detailed devblogs covering a full UI overhaul, a new replay and killcam system, completely new competitive features (clans, scrims, leaderboards, and an in-game currency called Kreds), two new weapons, a rebuilt level editor with visual scripting and particle systems, redesigned official maps, and a new Cosmetic Studio for community-made content. The August 21 post announced that closed playtesting was scheduled to begin the following week, indicating the update is imminent. The developer acknowledged that the last public update was in September 2024 but confirmed that 18 private builds had been pushed during that quiet period. The game's history shows a consistent pattern of major updates: v2.0 shipped June 2021, free-to-play transition in December 2023, and multiple feature patches through 2024. Version 4.0 has not yet shipped as of today (September 2, 2026).
