Sword With Sauce has an unusual history: when it launched on March 20, 2018, the developer immediately announced the end of development, citing scope constraints. The game sat dormant for over six years. On October 1, 2024, the developer reversed course with the version 3.0 update, explicitly stating "Sword With Sauce will continue development!" and committing to regular free updates aimed at bringing the game to a "proper finished state." This was followed by five rapid updates: version 3.1.0 (October 26, 2024) overhauled all weapon visuals and added 2 new weapons; version 3.2.0 (November 15, 2024) reworked all gadgets with new animations; version 3.3.0 (December 6, 2024) added 2 more weapons and 5 new gadgets; version 3.4.0 (January 30, 2025) added 2 more weapons and 4 more gadgets; and version 3.4.1 (February 8, 2025) delivered quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes. This established a consistent cadence of roughly one major update per month. However, the last developer communication was February 8, 2025, and as of October 1, 2026, more than 7 months have passed with no updates, announcements, or explanation. This far exceeds both the established ~1-month cadence and the 6-month silence threshold. The developer's stated goal of reaching a "proper finished state" has not been declared complete, leaving outstanding commitments without any follow-through communication. It is unclear whether development is continuing or has been quietly abandoned again.
