Frozen Flame entered Steam Early Access on November 17, 2022, with the developer committing to bring the game to a full 1.0 release including an Ice Citadel area and end-game activities. The game received a series of major content updates through early 2024: a new Dragon's Grove biome (December 2022), a boss update (January 2023), public servers and the Cataclysm mode (April 2023), and an open alpha for a new biome featuring reworked combat and an ability tree (May 28, 2024).
However, the road to completion has faced challenges. In September 2023, the developer disclosed that budget cuts had forced a team reduction, slowing development. By March 2024, they were directly addressing player concerns about the game's future, promising a beta test "this spring." On May 28, 2024, they released an open alpha for the next biome update — but noted that quests, activities, balance, and localization were still missing, with a beta still to come before the full release. They also reaffirmed plans for the Ice Citadel area and a story conclusion as the "final part of the game."
Since that May 28, 2024 post, there has been no further official communication from the developer. The promised spring 2024 beta never materialized publicly, and the full game remains unfinished with the Ice Citadel content still undelivered. With no developer updates for over two years (last communication May 28, 2024), it is unclear whether development is still actively progressing.
