Evaluation

FTL: Faster Than Light launched on September 14, 2012 as a complete, finished product. Its one major post-launch content release was FTL: Advanced Edition, a free expansion that shipped on April 3, 2014, adding a new alien race, ships, weapons, drones, events, music, and more. The store description explicitly notes that Advanced Edition is included free for all owners and future purchasers — framing it as a definitive, bundled addition rather than the start of an ongoing content cycle. Since Advanced Edition shipped, Subset Games' updates to FTL have been purely maintenance and localization in nature: official translations added in September 2018, a Japanese translation in December 2019, and Steam achievement integration in January 2020. None of these represent new gameplay content. Subset Games' February 2018 announcement confirmed the studio had shifted its focus entirely to its second game, Into the Breach, making clear that FTL's content development concluded with Advanced Edition. The only DLC listed on the store is the soundtrack, which released alongside the base game in 2012. There are no unreleased DLC entries, no announced future content, and no roadmap of any kind. The game launched as a complete product and received one major free expansion, after which development wrapped up. FTL is a finished game.
