Game Dev Tycoon launched on Steam on August 29, 2013 and has received several rounds of post-launch content over the years. The developer used milestone events — such as the mobile release in 2018 and the Nintendo Switch release in 2020 — as occasions to ship free content updates to the Steam version, including new game modes, topics, UI improvements, and cross-platform save support. However, Greenheart Games has been clear that their primary focus has shifted entirely to their second game, Tavern Keeper. As far back as March 2024, the developer stated: "we are going back to focusing on finishing our next PC game." Tavern Keeper launched into Early Access on November 3, 2025, fulfilling that goal. The two most recent updates to Game Dev Tycoon — a small bug fix on October 1, 2025 and a pre-emptive maintenance patch on October 10, 2025 — are purely maintenance in nature, with no new content. The historical pattern of content updates to Game Dev Tycoon was always tied to external milestones (new platform launches), not a recurring development cycle. With Tavern Keeper now launched, there is no remaining platform event that would logically trigger another content drop for Game Dev Tycoon. The developer has made no announcements of future content for the game, no unreleased DLC is listed on the store, and the store description presents the game as a complete product. Game Dev Tycoon appears to have reached its final form as of October 2025.
