Evaluation

Hospitalize entered Steam Early Access on September 21, 2016 and has never reached a 1.0 release. The developer, Illeris, was active throughout 2017 and 2018, shipping several major updates including a Departments system (March 2018), Sandbox Mode (April 2018), Steam Workshop modding support (June 2018), and a Translations feature in development as of September 2018. Developer communications expressed enthusiasm for continued development, with the September 3, 2018 post mentioning "exciting content coming to Experimental in not very long." However, that September 3, 2018 post is the last official communication from Illeris on record. As of June 27, 2026 — nearly 8 years later — no further updates, patch notes, announcements, or developer posts have appeared. The game remains available for purchase on Steam and is still flagged as Early Access, meaning it is officially unfinished. The developer has never announced that development has concluded, that the studio has closed, or that a 1.0 release is forthcoming. The prolonged silence following what appeared to be active development raises serious questions about whether the project is still being maintained.
Evidence
Last official developer communication. A feature patch (v0.14.0.6) with mention of 'exciting content coming to Experimental in not very long' — the final post from the developer on record.

About this game

Hospitalize is all about finding the most effective way to construct and manage a hospital. Build your hospital smart and avoid excess time and resources consumed by traveling and examining your hospitalized patients unnecessary.

Staff it and watch your “minions” attempt to navigate through your hospital maze and solve all your patients’ troubles. As the administrator, you really do not need to care much about what your employees keep themselves occupied with on a daily schedule. You have much more important things to do, like taking big decisions and building the hospital.

Balance your next hospital expansion between what the hospital needs and what that is most profitable. Choose the right staff and manage the hospital policies. Do the patients need to be fully healed before the doctors discharge them, or will you discharge them early and get paid?
Send patients through your different hospital examinations and see if you or any of your doctors are able to identify the cause of their symptoms and give them the right treatment. Your doctors and nurses will often try to do their best, but as the hospital administrator, you can always overrule their decisions and modify all your patients’ journals.
