Evaluation
I Am Overburdened launched on November 2, 2017 and received steady updates over the following years. Two major content updates shipped: version 1.1.0 on December 22, 2017 (adding mouse support, new items, and dungeon templates) and version 1.2.0 on November 14, 2018 (adding the save game feature and various fixes). Beginning in mid-2019, the developer began publicly previewing a substantial named expansion called "The Encumbered Edition," promising new artifacts (bringing the total to ~139), five new monster variants, three new boss fight scenarios, new game modes, attribute redesigns, and more. The developer described this expansion as a free update that would accompany a base price increase.
Despite consistent teasing and progress updates throughout 2019, the expansion was not released that year. The developer went silent for an extended period, returned on February 12, 2022 to acknowledge the long gap, and resumed work with a feature patch (version 1.2.9, March 24, 2022) that included quality-of-life improvements explicitly described as preparation work for the upcoming expansion. A hotfix (version 1.2.10) followed on April 22, 2022. In that final post, the developer noted that "progress is slower than expected on tying up the loose ends of the expansion pack."
Since April 22, 2022, the developer has posted nothing — no updates, no status reports, and no acknowledgment of the expansion's fate. The promised "Encumbered Edition" expansion remains undelivered. Given that the developer has gone silent for over four years after repeatedly promising this content and describing it as nearly finished, the status of the expansion is genuinely uncertain.
Evidence
Hotfix 1.2.10 released, fixing bugs from 1.2.9. Developer notes that 'progress is slower than expected on tying up the loose ends of the expansion pack.' This is the last official communication from the developer.
Feature patch 1.2.9 released with quality-of-life changes described as preparation for the upcoming expansion 'The Encumbered Edition.' Developer says it is 'really, really close' and plans no more small updates before releasing the expansion.

About this game
I Am Overburdened is a silly roguelike with a fun twist to the tried and true classical formula. The player takes the role of an artifact hunter, who has a surprisingly large carrying capacity, embarking on a quest to search through dungeon after dungeon for mystical artifacts and answers, in a world where magic has long been forgotten...

What is this 20 slots, 100+ unique artifacts RPG nonsense?
Simple, your "hero" does not get more powerful magically by beating some orcs to death and he is not a wizard either. In the world of I Am Overburdened the art of magic-wielding was lost, but legendary artifacts and relics retained their power. If you equip these you become stronger, sometimes immeasurably, and you may even learn reactive skills and otherworldly abilities, but no sane person wears two pants...

- Turn-based roguelike with permanent death.
- Run focused campaign, playable in short bursts.
- Fill a huge inventory having 20 slots.
- Find more than 100 crazy artifacts, all of them unique.
- Learn the ins and outs of an RPG system that feels approachable and fresh, but familiar and deep at the same time.
- Crawl in procedural dungeons generated from hand authored layouts.
- Immortalize your best playthroughs in the "Hall of Fame".
- Collect details about monsters and artifacts in your journal.
- Unfold a funny story, packed with vicious evils, puns, and jokes.
