Klepto entered Steam Early Access on June 30, 2016, as a burglary simulation with a clear roadmap of planned content. The game's store page explicitly outlines a second phase of development still to come — including a Story Mode, four new neighborhoods, a disguise system, residential hacking, and additional multiplayer modes — none of which had been delivered as of the last developer update. Throughout 2016 and into 2017, Meerkat Gaming posted regularly — roughly every 1–4 weeks — with patch notes, dev blogs, and progress previews. Their communications consistently emphasized a major upcoming update called Alpha 0.2.0, which would introduce the Cops & Robbers multiplayer mode, a redesigned Oldtown area, a mission system, and more. As late as September 2, 2017, the developer posted a feature update previewing the upcoming Oak Crest neighborhood and acknowledging slow but continued progress. After that September 2, 2017 post, the developer went completely silent. No Alpha 0.2.0 release was ever announced. No studio closure or suspension of development was communicated. The game remains purchasable on Steam in Early Access, with its store page still describing planned features that were never delivered. Given that nearly 9 years have passed since the last developer communication, the status of this project is deeply uncertain — the promised content may never arrive.
