The Way of Life Free Edition is a free-to-play proof-of-concept game that the developer, CyberCoconut, explicitly positioned as a sampler for their paid Definitive Edition. On May 31, 2016, the developer announced that version 1.0 was fully released and stated clearly: "From now on all the contents that we will develop will be available only on the Definitive Edition of the game." This was a direct declaration that the Free Edition would receive no further content development.
The Definitive Edition — a substantially expanded, paid version of the game — launched on March 15, 2018. Following that, the Free Edition received one final update on May 18, 2018 (the "Spring Renovation Update"), which brought its visuals and language options in line with the Definitive Edition. The developer framed this explicitly as a cosmetic refresh for the older free content, not as new gameplay content, and directed players toward the Definitive Edition for the full experience.
The last developer communication of any kind for this game was a bug-fix/feature patch for the Definitive Edition posted on June 18, 2018. No updates, announcements, or communications have followed since then. The Free Edition's content was declared complete at version 1.0 launch in May 2016, and the final polish update arrived in May 2018. The game has been stable and finished since that point.
