Evaluation

Machinarium is a complete, self-contained adventure game originally released on October 16, 2009. It received a major "definitive" free update on June 22, 2017, which rebuilt the game from scratch on a new custom engine, adding achievements, gamepad support, cloud saves, and expanded language support. That update represents the game's final content form. The only DLC ever released is a Soundtrack + Art Book, which shipped on November 17, 2011. Amanita Design has continued to provide technical maintenance: a DirectX 12 update shipped on March 25, 2025, and a follow-up renderer and audio fix on December 16, 2025. These are compatibility and performance updates, not new content. The developer's news posts on the Machinarium Steam page are largely used to promote other Amanita Design titles. The 15th anniversary post on October 16, 2024 celebrated the game's legacy and mentioned four games in development at the studio — none involving new Machinarium content. A September 14, 2026 announcement teases Amanita Design's participation in The Triple-i Initiative showcase on October 8, 2026, describing "something new to show." Given this refers to an upcoming reveal at a multi-studio showcase event, it most plausibly concerns one of the studio's other projects in development rather than new Machinarium content, and the context contains no indication otherwise. There is no announced or unreleased DLC, no roadmap, and no developer statement suggesting further Machinarium content is planned. The game launched as a complete narrative experience and has remained so.

About this game

Machinarium is the award-winning adventure game from the makers of Phonopolis, CHUCHEL and Samorost.

A little robot named Josef is thrown out into the scrapyard behind the city.
Help him find his way back, deal with the Black Cap Brotherhood and save his girlfriend Berta!

  • World: The world of Machinarium is populated only by robots of various shapes and functions. One of the most remarkable places is the old, rusty and legendary city of Machinarium, where the game takes place.

  • Story: Get rid of the wicked robots from the Black Cap Brotherhood and save the mayor and your robot-girl friend.

  • Puzzles: Solve logic puzzles, adventure quests, brain teasers and mini-games.

  • Graphics: Hand-drawn 2D backgrounds and characters, with more than an hour of carefully crafted animation.

  • Music: A beautiful original soundtrack composed and recorded by Tomáš Dvořák aka Floex.

  • Communication: No lengthy dialogue! Characters talk through comic bubbles with simple animations and symbols.
