Market Tycoon has been in Early Access on Steam since May 11, 2017. The original developer, Protection Games, actively updated the game from launch through early 2022, shipping major content updates and feature patches on a roughly 6-12 month cadence. The last game update was a bug fix patch on January 31, 2022. On January 14, 2024, Protection Games announced they had sold the rights to Market Tycoon to a new, unnamed gaming company, stating the new team was "committed to building upon the foundation" and eager to develop the game further. However, since that ownership transfer announcement — now over two and a half years ago — there has been no communication whatsoever from the new owner: no patch notes, no roadmap, no developer posts, and no indication of ongoing development activity. The game remains listed on Steam in Early Access, meaning it is still officially presented as an unfinished product. With no updates since January 2022 and no communication from the current owner since the acquisition was announced in January 2024, it is unclear whether active development is continuing or whether the new owners have shelved the project. The gap between the last game update (January 31, 2022) and today (June 27, 2026) spans over four years, far exceeding any historical update cadence the game had established.
