Master of Magic Classic

Master of Magic Classic is the 2020 Steam re-release of the beloved 1994 4X strategy game. It launched on February 25, 2020 alongside its first DLC (Caster of Magic), and a second DLC — Caster of Magic for Windows — shipped on April 22, 2021. Both DLCs are fully released, and no unreleased DLC is listed on the store. Post-launch, the game received a consistent stream of feature patches and updates, primarily for the Caster of Magic for Windows DLC, running from 2021 through late 2023. The most recent developer communication on record is a Community Patch changelog (v1.60) posted on September 29, 2023, which focused on quality-of-life improvements. Notably, a September 2022 announcement revealed that a full remake — a separate product titled simply "Master of Magic" (App ID 1623070) — was releasing on December 13, 2022. This suggests the development focus shifted to that new title, which is a distinct game from this Classic edition. Since the September 29, 2023 Community Patch post, there have been no further developer communications for this title. The established update cadence — roughly every few months during 2021–2023 — has now been silent for over two and a half years (from September 29, 2023 through today, June 26, 2026). No future content has been announced, no unreleased DLC is listed, and the developer has not stated any plans for additional updates. The game appears to have reached the end of its content lifecycle, with the Community Patch v1.60 being the final update.
