Monster Hunter Wilds launched on February 27, 2025 and has received sustained post-launch support through a numbered free Title Update system. Title Update 1 shipped April 4, 2025; Title Update 2 on June 30, 2025; Title Update 3 on September 29, 2025 (featuring the Final Fantasy XIV collaboration and new monsters); and Title Update 4 on December 16, 2025 (adding the Elder Dragon Gogmazios). A further major update (Ver. 1.041, February 18, 2026) introduced Arch-tempered Arkveld and a series of 10★ Arch-tempered challenges.
CAPCOM officially announced Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance on June 6, 2026 — a full-scale paid expansion scheduled to launch in 2027. The expansion is already listed on the Steam store as an unreleased product. As of September 17, 2026, CAPCOM has been actively promoting it: Trailer #1 dropped on September 4, 2026, revealing new monsters like Araketa and Gundoraja; weapon breakdown videos for all 14 weapon types were published on September 16, 2026; and the elder dragon Teostra was announced for the expansion during Capcom Spotlight at TGS 2026 on September 17, 2026.
Also on September 17, 2026, CAPCOM posted a notice explaining that Character Edit Vouchers will be discontinued on December 3, 2026 and replaced with a free unlimited character editing system launching alongside Ascendance in 2027 — a concrete logistical step that further confirms the expansion is actively in development and on track. The expansion is unambiguously confirmed and incoming.

Story
A few years past, a young boy named Nata was rescued at the border of the Forbidden Lands, an unexplored region the guild has yet to survey.
After hearing the boy’s tale of his lone escape from a mysterious monster that attacked his village, the Guild organized an expedition into the Forbidden Lands to investigate.

Environments within the Forbidden Lands can drastically change as the weather shifts constantly and suddenly. During the harsh Fallow and perilous Inclemency periods, ravenous monsters will venture out to hunt in packs, yet during the Plenty periods, wildlife is rich and abundant.

The monsters who inhabit these environments have been forced to adapt to the dynamic changes that occur, using their unique characteristics to survive and thrive.
Hunting
As the world around them changes, so must the hunters and their tactics. Not only will hunters have a multitude of weapons and armor to choose from, but the art of the hunt itself has evolved as hunters learn to anticipate monsters’ behavior and familiarize themselves with their environment.
