Evaluation
Mountain launched on August 18, 2014 and is still sold on Steam as a finished nature simulation. Its major post-launch update, Mountain 2.0, arrived on December 12, 2018 and rebuilt every system, shader, texture and model; the developer described it as more work than making the original game. A free update had been announced for April 20, 2017. The store page lists no DLC, no expansions have been announced, and no future content has been promised. The newest post, dated October 8, 2026, announces the Mountain 2.1 patch. It is a maintenance update that moves the game to a newer engine so it keeps running on new computers, keeps saves on Steam Cloud, adds a flashing-light option, and fixes several display and text issues. It does not introduce new content, and the earlier 2.0.1 version remains available as a beta branch. The store description still promotes Mountain 2.0. Because nothing has been announced beyond the 2018 overhaul, the game's content is considered complete as of December 12, 2018, even though the developer is still keeping the game running.
Evidence
Mountain 2.0 overhaul rebuilt every system, shader, texture and model. The developer called it more work than making the original game and framed it as a thank-you to players.
Mountain 2.1 patch moves the game to a newer engine so it runs on new computers, keeps saves on Steam Cloud, adds a flashing-light option and fullscreen fixes, and corrects text and visual issues. No new content is announced.
