Evaluation

Next Day: Survival left Early Access and officially launched on May 21, 2018. The developer posted a candid development status update on December 19, 2018, explaining that the game had received all content planned at launch, that it was now a full release (no longer in beta), and that most of the team had moved on to other projects. They noted that future major updates would be extremely costly and that they needed time to assess whether more large updates were feasible. They mentioned a vague intent for "2-3 major updates" at that time, but framed this as aspirational rather than a firm commitment. After that December 2018 post, the game went largely quiet until March 2023 — over four years later — when the developer posted a flurry of activity around a server migration. The game's online servers were moved to new hosting (prompted by sanctions-related disruptions), and updates v1.3.0, v1.3.1, and v1.3.2 were released between March 6–7, 2023. These updates added an offline mode, restored online server functionality, and fixed connectivity bugs. No new gameplay content was introduced; these were infrastructure and maintenance updates to keep the game operational. The last developer communication of any kind was on March 7, 2023. Since then — over three years ago — there have been no further posts, announcements, or updates. The 2018 statement about potential future updates was never followed through with any named or committed content, and the 2023 activity was entirely focused on keeping existing infrastructure running rather than expanding the game. The one DLC listed (the game's soundtrack) was released in 2017, well before launch. Given the developer's own acknowledgment in 2018 that major content work was effectively complete at launch, the absence of any substantial new content since then, and the complete silence since March 7, 2023, the game is best understood as a finished product. The March 7, 2023 patch is the last meaningful update and serves as the practical end date for development activity.
Evidence
Developer explicitly states the game has received all content planned for release, it is no longer in beta and is a full version. Most of the team has moved to other projects. Future major updates would be very costly and uncertain — developer mentions a vague aspiration for 2-3 more updates but frames it as dependent on resources and time, not a firm commitment.
