Onward

Onward has a long development history, having been available in Early Access since 2016 on Steam. The developer explicitly confirmed in their January 2025 Sitrep that Update 2.0 would mark "the end of Onward's Early Access phase," representing a major milestone after nine years of development. Update 2.0 shipped on March 25, 2025 — the game's official 1.0 release date on Steam — delivering a sweeping overhaul: 13 new weapons, a full visual revamp of all existing weapons, three new maps, a new operator selection system with 20 unique characters, new game modes, and substantial AI and environment improvements. Since the 1.0 launch, the only developer communication has been a security hotfix on October 6, 2025, which patched a vulnerability in the game engine and had no player-facing content changes. There have been no announcements of future DLC, expansions, or additional content, no unreleased DLC listed on the store, and no roadmap pointing to further development. The store description makes no mention of ongoing seasonal content or a live-service model. Looking at the broader post-launch pattern: Update 2.0 was explicitly framed as the graduation from Early Access and as the game's biggest and most definitive update.
