Outbound launched on May 11, 2026 and Square Glade Games has maintained an active and transparent development cadence ever since. On May 15, 2026, the developer published a 2026 roadmap explicitly stating "Outbound 1.0 is just the beginning," with plans for multiple major content updates throughout the year. The first of these — the Fishing Update (Patch 1.1) — shipped on June 23, 2026, adding a full fishing system, 32 collectible fish, fish tanks, stairs, doors, and new locations across all four biomes. On September 9, 2026, the developer announced the Wildlife Update as coming soon, detailing plans for wild animals, birds, insects, a photography system with Steam library integration, and wildlife journal entries. Crucially, that same post announced a further update after Wildlife, which will add NPCs — adventurers, campers, and townspeople with their own routines. This makes clear that at least two more major updates are in the pipeline. The developer has also maintained steady bug fix and quality-of-life patches throughout the post-launch period (most recently on August 10, 2026), demonstrating the team is fully engaged. Both DLC items (School Bus Adventures and the Original Soundtrack) were released on launch day and no further DLC is listed as unreleased on the store, but the developer's own announcements confirm substantial free content updates are still in development.
