Outlast 2 launched on April 24, 2017 as a complete, standalone survival horror game. Following launch, Red Barrels released a difficulty-balancing patch on May 5, 2017 and later added a "Story Mode" on March 27, 2018 — a free accessibility-focused update that also restored some content that had been cut from the original release for rating reasons. There are no DLC listings, no season passes, no announced expansions, and no developer communications suggesting additional content was ever planned. The last developer post dates to March 27, 2018, and no roadmap, future content promise, or unshipped content has been mentioned at any point. The game launched as a self-contained experience, and Red Barrels has treated it as such. The studio has since moved on to developing The Outlast Trials.
