Evaluation
People Playground launched on July 23, 2019 and has been continuously developed since by solo developer mestiez. The game has received multiple major named updates over the years, including version 1.21 (August 17, 2021), 1.22 (November 1, 2021), 1.24 (May 21, 2022), and 1.27 (October 21, 2023), each substantially expanding the game with new objects, maps, simulation systems, and mechanics.
Between September 21–24, 2026, the game suffered a serious security incident in which malicious malware spread through Workshop mods, causing harm to affected players. The developer posted a full incident recap on September 24, 2026, explaining what happened, what was done to address it (Valve deleted all affected Workshop items), and — critically — what comes next: the existing C# modding system is being retired and will be replaced with a new, isolated scripting layer (most likely Lua). The developer explicitly stated that "leaving the game without [mod support] is not an option" and committed to designing a replacement system in collaboration with experienced modders.
This September 24, 2026 post is the most recent developer communication and confirms the game is in active development. The developer has not announced that content updates are complete — rather, they have outlined significant future work on the modding infrastructure. No completion statement has ever been made.
Evidence
Developer posted a full recap of the September 2026 Workshop malware incident. C# mods are being discontinued and will be replaced with a new, isolated scripting system (likely Lua). Developer states that leaving the game without mod support 'is not an option' and commits to designing a replacement system with the modding community.
Major update 1.27 released, adding a new map (Reactor A5), new items (decoupler, chain, naval mine, office furniture), and significant gameplay improvements.

About this game
Shoot, stab, burn, poison, tear, vaporise, or crush ragdolls. This game is for people who enjoy throwing around ragdolls but want it to be more detailed, satisfying, and feel more free while doing so.
Ragdolls are simple on the outside but detailed on the inside. You can siphon their blood and replace it with nitroglycerine. You can submerge their head and cause brain damage by asphyxiation. Think of something horrible, and you can probably do it in People Playground. Afterwards, you could even hook them up to an ECG and blood supply to try to get them back on their feet.
Every object in the game has its own physical properties: weight, sharpness, thermal and electrical conductivity, ferromagnetism, heat capacity, bullet resistance, and so on. The game simulates temperature, heat transfer through objects and through the air, electricity, and rigid body dynamics. All these systems combined make for emergent gameplay. You may experience behaviour that was never explicitly implemented.
Mutilation aside, you are encouraged to build interesting contraptions or download them from the Steam Workshop. Construct airplanes, walkers, impenetrable bases, automatic doors, shields, computers, unholy weaponry - it's up to you!
Once you get bored of the limited amount of items, you may download one of many Workshop mods and addons to expand the toy box, or you could make your own.
