Evaluation
Portal 2 launched on April 18, 2011 and received one post-launch content addition: the free "Peer Review" co-op DLC on October 4, 2011, followed by the Perpetual Testing Initiative — a free in-game puzzle maker with Steam Workshop integration — which shipped on May 8, 2012. That puzzle maker update represents the last major content expansion Valve delivered for the game.
Since 2012, Valve has continued to issue periodic maintenance patches — fixing security vulnerabilities, improving platform compatibility (including Steam Deck and Linux support), and updating the SDK — but no new story content, levels, or game modes have been added. The most recent updates, in January and February 2025, were purely security and compatibility fixes. The sole DLC listed on the store (the Portal 2 Soundtrack) has been released. There are no unreleased DLC entries, no developer roadmap, and no announcements of upcoming content.
The game launched as a complete, narrative-driven product and received its final content in 2012. The ongoing patches reflect Valve's standard maintenance practices for a popular back-catalog title, not an active content development cycle. Portal 2 is a finished game.

About this game
Portal 2 draws from the award-winning formula of innovative gameplay, story, and music that earned the original Portal over 70 industry accolades and created a cult following.
The single-player portion of Portal 2 introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers. Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game.
The game’s two-player cooperative mode features its own entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters. This new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals. Success will require them to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively.
