Evaluation
Quake Live launched on Steam on September 17, 2014, building on its origins as a browser-based game developed in 2010. The game shipped as a complete, feature-rich arena FPS with over 100 arenas and 12+ game modes.
After launch, id Software delivered several notable content updates: Update 22 in December 2014 added 9 new arenas and Steam Trading Cards; Update 23 in April 2015 added 4 more arenas, new announcers, and new medals; and the major Steamworks integration in October 2015 overhauled the entire infrastructure — retiring the subscription service, adding Workshop support, Steam achievements, voice chat, and more. A series of bug-fix patches followed through early 2016, with the final known developer communication being a bug-fix update (v1069) on June 7, 2016.
Since June 7, 2016, there have been no further developer news posts, content announcements, or roadmap communications of any kind. The store description presents the game as a complete product with a fixed feature set. No DLC is listed. No unreleased content has been announced. The developer has not stated that more content is coming, and the long silence since 2016 — nearly a decade — strongly indicates that active development concluded with the v1069 patch. The game appears to have shipped as a finished product and received its last content in mid-2016.
Evidence
Major Steamworks integration launched, retiring the old subscription service and launcher. Fully integrated Steam features including Workshop, achievements, voice chat, and server browser. Developers noted they 'cannot wait to see what the community comes up with in the many years to come.'
Update 23 added four new arenas, two new announcers, five new medals, and new game mechanics including keys and single-state switches.
