Evaluation

Shakedown: Hawaii launched on Steam on October 20, 2020, and solo developer Brian (Vblank Entertainment) has continued to update it well beyond launch. The post-launch history shows a sustained pattern of content additions and improvements: v1.1.1 and v1.1.2 in late October 2020 added new gameplay elements and controller support; v1.1.3 in December 2020 added achievements and new gameplay interactions; v1.1.4 in February 2022 was a technical update. The most substantial content addition came with v1.1.6 on November 18, 2024 — the "Pen vs. Sword" update — which added three new weapons (Sword & Shield, Pen, and Lightgun), new arcade challenges, a Multiplier Assistant feature, and new costume options. Most recently, v1.1.7 on December 5, 2025 brought UI refinements and quality-of-life improvements ported over from the mobile version. This update history — spanning from October 2020 through December 2025 — establishes a clear pattern of ongoing developer engagement. The intervals between major content additions are irregular but substantial updates have arrived as recently as November 2024. The developer has not announced any specific upcoming content, but has also never stated that development is complete. There is no DLC listed on the store. The most recent communication is from December 5, 2025, roughly 10 months before today's date (October 8, 2026). Given the historically irregular cadence (with gaps as long as ~2 years between notable updates), 10 months of silence is within the established pattern and does not suggest development has ended.
Evidence
'Pen vs. Sword' update (v1.1.6) released, adding three new weapons, new arcade challenges, a Multiplier Assistant feature, new costume options, and engine improvements — the most substantial post-launch content addition.

About this game

The entire island is up for grabs... or at least, could be with the right business model.

Shakedown: Hawaii combines open world action and empire building. Build a "legitimate" corporation by completing open world missions, acquiring businesses, sabotaging competitors, "re-zoning" land, and shaking down shops for protection money.

Shakedown: Hawaii parodies big business, and the most absurd business practices that go alongside. You're the CEO, and questionable subsidiaries, misleading ads, fine print, hidden service fees, and marketing spin are the tools of your trade.

From the boardroom to the streets, build your corporate empire and destroy the competition. It's business in the front, and bodies in the back... in Shakedown: Hawaii.
