Evaluation
Retro City Rampage DX originally launched in 2012 and received its major "DX" remaster update on November 11, 2014, which overhauled the game top-to-bottom. The last significant content addition was the MS-DOS and Linux release on July 29, 2015, which rounded out the platform support and bonus content the game is still sold with today. Since then, the developer (a solo developer named Brian) has focused entirely on a separate title, Shakedown: Hawaii, which launched on Steam in October 2020. The only post-2015 update for Retro City Rampage DX was a quality-of-life and compatibility patch (v2.10) released on November 15, 2024 — over nine years after the last content addition — addressing bugs, adding Apple Silicon support, and upgrading controller compatibility. There are no unreleased DLC items, no announced future content, no roadmap, and no developer statements suggesting additional content is planned. The game shipped as a complete package and has been in a maintenance-only state for many years.
