Evaluation
Slime Rancher launched on August 1, 2017 and received a steady stream of major free content updates throughout its post-launch life: Mochi's Megabucks Update (March 13, 2018), and Viktor's Experimental Update (June 18, 2019), among others. All five DLC items — the Original Soundtrack, VR Playground, Galactic Bundle, Secret Style Pack, and Original Soundtrack II — shipped between August 2017 and December 2019, with no unreleased DLC remaining on the store.
The Pool Party Update on May 26, 2020 (v1.4.2) was the last developer post of any substance for the original game, focused on performance improvements and minor feature additions. Notably, that post included the line "There are even more Slime Rancher adventures in development, but we're not ready to reveal them just yet!" — however, this teaser was almost certainly referring to Slime Rancher 2, which was formally announced on June 13, 2021 and launched into Early Access on September 22, 2022. There is no evidence it pointed to additional content for the original game.
On January 13, 2022, Monomi Park celebrated selling over 5 million copies of Slime Rancher and explicitly directed players' attention toward Slime Rancher 2 as the future of the franchise. No new content, patches, or roadmap items for the original game have been announced since May 2020. The developer's focus has fully shifted to the sequel.
With all DLC shipped, no unreleased content listed, no outstanding developer commitments for the original game, and the studio's own communications pointing to Slime Rancher 2 as the continuation of the franchise, Slime Rancher is a complete, finished game. The last meaningful update to the game was the Pool Party Update on May 26, 2020.
Evidence
Slime Rancher 2 launch date announced for September 22, 2022, confirming the studio's full pivot to the sequel.
Monomi Park announces 5 million copies sold and directs players to Slime Rancher 2 as the future of the franchise — no mention of any further content for the original game.
