Evaluation
SOMA launched on September 21, 2015 as a complete narrative horror experience. Frictional Games later added a "Safe Mode" update (referenced in the March 2021 Amnesia: Rebirth news post) that removed monster threats for players who wanted to experience the story without horror elements — this was the last notable content addition to the game itself.
Frictional Games continues to actively maintain the game with occasional bug fix patches (most recently on September 22, 2025) and has released SOMA on Nintendo Switch on August 12, 2025. These activities reflect ongoing stewardship of an existing product rather than new story or gameplay content.
The studio's creative focus has moved to ONTOS, announced at The Game Awards on December 12, 2025 as a spiritual successor to SOMA, targeting a 2026 release. A March 2026 post also promotes a SOMA bundle alongside another game while directing players to wishlist ONTOS. None of these communications suggest additional content is coming to SOMA itself.
The news scan across 50 posts found no unreleased DLC, no announced expansions, and no roadmap commitments for SOMA. The game shipped as a self-contained story and has been treated as such throughout its lifecycle. The Safe Mode update, which represents the last meaningful content addition, was added around late 2017–2018. The game is a complete, finished product.

About this game
SOMA is a sci-fi horror game from Frictional Games, the creators of Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It is an unsettling story about identity, consciousness, and what it means to be human.
The radio is dead, food is running out, and the machines have started to think they are people. Underwater facility PATHOS-II has suffered an intolerable isolation and we’re going to have to make some tough decisions. What can be done? What makes sense? What is left to fight for?
Enter the world of SOMA and face horrors buried deep beneath the ocean waves. Delve through locked terminals and secret documents to uncover the truth behind the chaos. Seek out the last remaining inhabitants and take part in the events that will ultimately shape the fate of the station. But be careful, danger lurks in every corner: corrupted humans, twisted creatures, insane robots, and even an inscrutable omnipresent A.I.
You will need to figure out how to deal with each one of them. Just remember there’s no fighting back, either you outsmart your enemies or you get ready to run.
