Evaluation

STANDBOX is a solo-developed physics sandbox that launched on August 14, 2023. The developer has been transparent from the start: this is a finished product and not early access, and buyers should not purchase it based on promised future content. Despite that framing, the developer has continued shipping substantial updates well beyond launch. Major content updates include version 1.24.4 on June 29, 2024 (stumbling, bracing, ledge-grabbing, new maps, reworked grenades) and version 1.25 on October 27, 2024 (landmines, new behaviors, a greenscreen studio map, Easter eggs, rebuilt preset system, and improved blood/wound systems). This establishes a pattern of major updates roughly every 6–12 months since launch. Through early-to-mid 2025, the developer and community team posted weekly Discord highlights describing active work on a Canvas painting system (for real-time, procedural painting on map meshes), a new secret level, a property/context menu system, UI reworks, and ongoing modding SDK (STANDEVKIT) development. The modding SDK was distributed to all owners in February 2025 and Workshop access was opened to beta testers. The most recent developer communication was on November 25, 2025, which confirmed: "We're still working hard on the update and until we have more to show, let's enjoy a nice end of the year together." This makes clear a new major update was in active preparation as of that date. As of today, October 1, 2026, the last developer communication was on November 25, 2025 — approximately 10 months ago. The established cadence between major updates has been roughly 6–12 months. The gap since the last confirmed major update (October 27, 2024) is now nearly 24 months, which exceeds the historical cadence window. However, the November 25, 2025 post confirmed the next update was actively being worked on at that time. The silence since that post (roughly 10 months) is approaching the outer edge of the typical cadence, but does not yet cross it decisively given the developer's pattern of extended quiet periods between updates. There is no distress signal, closure announcement, or statement that development has ended. The developer has consistently described the game as a finished toy while continuing to ship meaningful new content — this is an ongoing pattern, not a broken promise.

About this game

STANDBOX is a small sandbox toy built for people who, as kids (or let’s be honest - still now), found more joy in tech demos than the games they were supposed to be playing.

You interact with Stanley, a smart-ish ragdoll animated by a rough approximation of a medical system. Stanley can stand, try to balance, fall, suffer, and heroically try to get back up. You can help him. You probably won’t. He has organs. You can damage them. Have fun with that.

Throw him around. Bleed him out. Break his bones. Pass the time. Regret nothing.

WHAT IS THIS?

This is a physics sandbox, not a story-driven epic or a sprawling RPG. It’s a compact playground where you experiment with systems: balance, trauma, concussion, blood loss, broken bones, and guilt. There are 3 maps, a handful of tools, and one very persistent ragdoll trying his best to survive your curiosity.

If you like weird simulations, funny injuries, or kicking a digital man while he’s down (and seeing if he gets back up), you’re in the right place.

FUTURE UPDATES?

THIS IS NOT AN EARLY-ACCESS TITLE:

Please do not buy this game for what it might become.
Buy it because you enjoy what’s here right now.

Yes, I have ideas. Yes, I might add more, but I'll do so at my own pace.

This is a finished toy. Any updates are bonuses, not promises.

If you want a constantly updating live-service game with patch notes every Tuesday and a battle pass full of hats, this is not that. This is a one-man project with a small scope and a big personality.

It’s a very fun physics toy. If that sounds good, welcome aboard.
