Evaluation
STAR WARS™: TIE Fighter Special Edition is a re-release of the classic 1994/1998 space combat game, made available on Steam on April 28, 2015. The package bundles the original TIE Fighter game along with its two expansion packs (Defender of the Empire and Enemies of the Empire) in both DOS and Windows versions — it launched as a complete, self-contained product with no post-launch content planned.
Since its Steam release, the developer has posted only maintenance updates: a Win10 compatibility patch in May 2016, a Mac compatibility patch in March 2018, a Mac 64-bit support update in April 2020, and a music bug fix in March 2021. None of these updates added new content. The last developer communication was on March 31, 2021. There has never been a major content release or any announcement of planned new content for this re-release.
This is a classic game re-release that shipped as a finished product. All content — the base game and both expansions — was included at launch.
Evidence
Store page describes the package as including TIE Fighter, Defender of the Empire, and Enemies of the Empire — all content bundled at launch with no mention of future additions.
Hotfix for music playback issue in the remastered version. Last known developer communication.
