Following that release, the developer posted twice more — on April 23, 2023 and June 12, 2023 — announcing plans for a second update that would add more characters and a new ranked daily random mode. The June 12, 2023 post targeted a late-2023 release window for this update. However, no update matching that description has shipped, and June 12, 2023 marks the last official communication from the developer on Steam. There has been no post, patch, or announcement since that date. The promised update has not arrived, and the developer has not explained the delay or confirmed whether plans have changed. This leaves the announced content in an uncertain state.

Sunset Routes is a simple seafaring rouge-lite game.
First, you need to select your destination, which determines what character you will get and the chance of getting it.
Then you have to select a character, which appears randomly depending on a variety of factors, including the destination itself, characters that can help you get a rare character, etc. The characters you own will determine how much cargo the ship can carry.
There are many kinds of interactions between characters, and you need to either manage your characters in the best way or kick them out from your ship in some way to make the ship carry more cargo.
The money you can earn depends on the amount and types of cargo in the ship and your next destination. Of course, your next destination also determines what cargo you'll be loading onto your ship.
There is a demand for a certain amount of money every 5 turns. How far you will go depends on how quickly and clearly you manage your characters and make a good combination out of them.
There will be multiple endings and achievements, and some of the choices you make during the voyage will affect your final ending.
