Evaluation

Tales of Rein Ravine entered Early Access on October 11, 2024. The developer, Maia the Horsegirl, has been transparent that the Early Access build is deliberately incomplete — the store description explicitly states that the game's storyline is not yet present, and that the current build offers only summer riding lessons and barn exploration while players "wait for the school year to begin." The full game is intended to include a narrative-driven equestrian university experience with showjumping, dressage, and cross country storylines. After the initial launch post on October 12, 2024, the developer issued one bug fix and quality-of-life update on October 16, 2024. That is the last recorded communication from the developer. As of June 21, 2026 — more than 20 months later — there have been no further updates, devlogs, patch notes, or announcements of any kind. The promised storyline content has not shipped, and no timeline for its delivery has been shared. The combination of explicitly unfinished content (the missing storyline) and a prolonged period of complete developer silence raises meaningful uncertainty about whether active development is continuing. Players who are waiting for the full game, including its story and complete gameplay systems, have no information from the developer about when or whether that content is coming.

About this game

In lush alpine mountains and meadows stands the renowned equestrian capital of Europe, a town called Rein Ravine and its surrounding province of the same name.

You have been admitted to study in its highly sought-after Rein Ravine Equine University International, alongside with other ambitious equestrians from around the world. This once in a lifetime opportunity leads you to train in the three most common European disciplines - showjumping, dressage, and cross country - under the eye of masters claimed to be some of the best in the world. But is equestrian life in this prestigious village as glamorous as it appears?

The Early Access version of Tales of Rein Ravine doesn't contain the storyline yet, but while waiting for the school year to begin, you can visit the barns in Rein Ravine and take summer riding lessons!

Tales of Rein Ravine aims to challenge its players with first-of-its-kind riding mechanics and gameplay heavily inspired by real-life horse riding, as well as tell an intriguing story - more mature than typical in its genre - to a young adult audience of horse gamers. Horses in Rein Ravine are versatile to ride, ranging from calm and experienced geldings to hot-blooded mares and easily spooked young stallions.
